Poster's note: Tractor Supply Company here in Murfreesboro, much like all of them throughout the United States have little knowledge of the laws reguarding the stripes by handicap parking, and care even less. I brought this up to this store somes years ago, as well as firing off a letter to corporate head quarters, now all I can do is post pictures of the shame. They just don't care, if anyone knows who to contact, let me know, this is an everyday thing, not just occasional.

Webmaster's Note: These types of stores seem not to care at all. We have many stores around here that use the striped aisle to store heavy bags of potting soil, and other like products. There is only so much that can be done, if direct contact has done nothing to help. You might want to print a copy of this post and send it in to your local newspaper, it might raise enough "noise" that the store will be more careful. OTOH, it might make you persona non grata at that store. .

The vehicle is not in the handicap parking space as you can clearly see. Perhaps this person needs new glasses. Is this your handicap?
The striped area is a no parking area for customer vehicles. As long as the stare maintains the handicap space and has a clear path to the front door they are in compliance.

  2. Maples01 says:

The stripes are for lowering a wheelchair lift or ramp, which just happens to come from the side of the vehicle, resting in the stripe area, can you see the problem yet, or do YOU need glasses.
Just why do you think there are stripe zones by handicap parking spaces mtb? Go to a handicap vehicle conversion shop and learn something before making comments on things you obviously don't understand.

  3. mtb says:

So what would you do if someone else was parked in that spot? Probably use a regular parking spot as most others do. Why is ok to use a regular parking spot in that instance? A person who is not handicapped can not use a handicap spot if it is empty so why can a handicap person use a regular spot? If you want to draw lines then draw them across the board!! By the way I have great vision. No glasses required here.
If this is such a problem why have you not reported it to the city code enforcer?

  4. Maples01 says:

You aren't very smart are you, I mention the stripes are for setting down a lift, yet you mention parking in a regular spot, where do I sit the lift if I do that, there will be a vehicle pulling beside me. Why should I be required to park at an angle taking two parking spots, just to insure I have room beside me, when there are handicap spots designed for my purpose, yet stupid stores block the access. When I take two spots, beople come out bitching about it, because they are ignorrant to the fact that I need the room, until they see me lowering the lift. I'm sick and damn tired of it, I've gotten a number of citations from rent-a-cops at hospitals for doing it. They have to walk around my van to get the tag number, see it's a disabled tag, not to forget the switches on the side that operate the lift.
The codes people look at it just like you are, seems the whole world is ignorrant to the ADA laws, yet there is no one to enforce them, we are just constantly redirected. No city official is going to say a thing about it because they are ignorrant of the ADA laws, and don't want to offend a corporation.

  5. mtb says:

So what you are saying is it is ok for you to come out bitching because something is blocking you but someone else can't come out bitching at you because you are blocking them or taking up extra spots. What double standard.
From your comments it is clear you haven't contacted local authorities. You have just taken a bitter view of things and made up your mind that you are right.
And you didn't answer my question. What do you do when someone is already parked in the handicap spots??????

  6. Maples01 says:

If you could read between the lines, you'd have picked up that I take 2 spots. BTW, I NEVER block others, BTW, they have no reason to come out complaining that I take 2 spots, it's not hampering them at all.
So you think I've taken a bitter view, you'll never understand, unless you become disabled and require the spots.
Just what authority do you suggest I discuss it with?

  7. Maples01 says:

BTW, just what does mtb stand for, if you don't mind me asking?

  8. arouil1 says:

I believe that Maples01 does not truly understand the use of the lined area. It is defiantly not for displaying equipment as shown in the pic.

I would ask that the tone be kept civil in this thread. Otherwise I'll have to lock it for comments :( I fully understand (and share) the frustrations of lack of parking, and of small minded people who just don't get it. Let's not sink to their level :)

  10. Petrol Burner says:

Clearly Maples01 Sees, Knows & understands the problem, as does the webmaster
I also fully understand (and share) the frustrations of y'all requiring the space, and of small minded people like mtb who just don’t get it.

  11. mtb says:

I guess small minded people go in both directions. It is clear that you feel it is ok to use a regular spot taking up 2 or 3 spaces any time you want and it is "not hampering them". If that handicap spot would have been occupied by another handicap person then you would have done just that and not even thought twice about it. Thus forcing someone who is elderly, with kids, or temporarily disabled and do not have the luxury of a handicap license plate to have to walk around or park further away.

My point is this. Don't screem about this as being a problem when there are alternatives that you are more than willing to use when it suites your needs. I truly hope that I never do become disabled, but if I do I will try to keep an open mind and except that things happen.
By the way. mtb is none of your business. What does maples01mean? I can see this is a now a lost cause.

The best defense against this is to stop shopping where this happens. I am sure that you can find somewhere else to go.

I can't believe I have wasted my time arguing with someone that has such a narrow sense of view. I won't make that mistake again.
    Signing off permanently "MTB"!!!!

  12. Webmaster says:

mtb, the problem with "stopping to shop where this happens", is that it happens *everywhere*.

When it rains, here, I know not to bother going grocery shopping, because I will not find parking. I once spent nearly two hours going from store to store, trying to find parking. I hit 7 different grocery stores. My partner got out of the car and invariably, about half the spaces where occupied by people not displaying a disability parking permit.

We do not just scream about this being a problem, we are trying to solve the problem. We do not just whine, we are pro-active. "Alternatives", such as utilising two "regular" spaces are sometimes possible, often not. If there was no abuse of disability parking spaces, these "alternatives" would not be required most of the time.

I regret that participants have felt it necessary to lower the discussion by using an insulting and a somewhat passive-aggressive tone.

The taxi company was contacted and their general manager is going to look into it. He said: "If you have any additional information on the date and time of this incident I would welcome the receipt of that so we can identify the driver concerned at the time and address the matter with them directly.

I may not buy more in one go, but I guarantee you I spend as much, if not more, than the average punter does in a week.
